工廠工人Quaid（Colin Farrell飾）有一個美麗的妻子（Kate Beckinsale飾），生活貌似不俗，但工作失意的他決定參加由Rekall舉辦的虛擬旅行，藉著值入晶片而體驗成為一個超級特工，但過程中卻意外觸動了 他潛藏的記憶，醒來後更遭到世界領袖Cohaagen（Bryan Cranston飾）所派的警察追捕。他不得不聯合偶然認識的反政府鬥士（Jessica Biel飾）逃避追捕，並要找到地下反政府組織的領袖（Bill Nighy飾），尋 求他的幫忙去反抗Cohaagen。
